Shallow

He didn’t have scales.
Love like that won’t fail.
Let the feelings flow deep.
No, don’t try to keep me away.

He saw me one night.
Under full-blown moonlight.
Said you’re such a pretty girl.
You’re out of this world.

Never heard other words.

Guess I’m shallow.
No, don’t like deep water.
I dream of spray on the sand.
A boy holding my hand.
I promise, I’m shallow.
One look, boy you’ve got her.
No need to wonder.
You’ve pulled me under.

He made a promise, or something.
Cheap, tiny ring.
Told me one day
We could live
A life of better things.
Let’s go live and love deep.

So I went up one night.
Kept my tail out of sight.
That’s when I saw her.
Standing with him by the water.
He gave her a ring.
Big shiny thing.
Said let’s go live and love deep.

Let the waves crash over them.
Summoned the  lightning and thunder.
Let the tide swallow him under.

Yes,  I’m shallow.
No, don’t like deep water.
I dream of spray on the sand.
A boy holding my hand.
I promise, I’m shallow.
One look, boy you’ve got her.
No need to wonder.
Why I pulled you under.
